City of Burbank
I-5 Widening Mitigation Inspection Services
On behalf of the City, APP has been providing inspection services and coordination with Caltrans and its contractor to mitigate the impacts of the agency’s massive I-5 North improvements program. Key issues impacting Burbank include traffic congestion, noise and maintaining reasonable access to homes and businesses.
Launched in 2014, Caltrans District 7’s improvements project on I-5 between Magnolia Boulevard and Buena Vista Street in Burbank is scheduled for completion in 2019. The project will add carpool lanes between Magnolia and Buena Vista Street, modifying the Empire Avenue interchange, reconstructing the Burbank Boulevard interchange and relocating the railroad to create grade separations. The project promises to relieve congestion, improve traffic flow and provide more efficient access to Bob Hope Airport and shopping centers.
APP inspection priorities include: the Burbank Boulevard on- and off-ramps to I-5, Front Street north of Magnolia Boulevard, the Walnut Street/Scott Road transition, Leland Way and Empire Avenue’s I-5 on- and off-ramps. Other areas of interest include: the Valpreda undercrossing, Old Empire Avenue, Victory Place and the new Victory Place bridge, Lincoln Street, Winona Avenue, Buena Vista Street at a temporary rail crossing, a new grade separation bridge, a freeway bridge being widened and North San Fernando Boulevard. Inspections have also addressed impacts on City of Burbank projects to construct a storm drain and a storm water pump station.
